Who we are
The data controller for this website is Hostingpaper Media B.V. ("Hostingpaper", "we", "us"). Hostingpaper publishes trade news at hostingpaper.com.
For privacy questions or requests, contact us. For general site information, see About and Contact.
What we collect
Hostingpaper is a read-only news site. We do not offer public user accounts, comments, or checkout on the site today.
Depending on how you use the site, we may process:
- Server and security logs — such as IP address, browser type, requested URL, referrer, and timestamp. These are generated when your device connects to our servers.
- Article read counts — anonymous aggregates that help us understand which stories are widely read. We use these for editorial context such as "most read" listings, not to build individual reader profiles.
- Search queries — when you use site search, your query is processed to return results. We do not use search to create marketing profiles.
- Local browser storage — if you change display settings (for example dark mode), your browser may store that preference locally. That information stays on your device unless you clear it.
How we use information
We use the information described above to:
- Operate, secure, and maintain the website
- Measure aggregate interest in our reporting
- Respond to enquiries, corrections, and security reports
- Comply with legal obligations
We do not sell your personal information. We do not use the public site to run behavioural advertising profiles.
Legal bases (EEA visitors)
If you are in the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, or another jurisdiction with similar rules, we rely on:
- Legitimate interests — to secure the site, understand aggregate readership, and improve our journalism product, balanced against your rights
- Consent — where required for non-essential storage in your browser
- Legal obligation — where we must retain or disclose information to comply with law
You may object to processing based on legitimate interests where applicable law gives you that right.
Retention
We keep information only as long as needed for the purposes above:
- Server logs are retained for a limited operational window, then rotated or deleted
- Article view aggregates are kept for editorial analytics and may be stored longer in summary form
- Correspondence you send us is kept as long as needed to handle your request and maintain a record of our response
When retention is no longer necessary, we delete or anonymise data where feasible.
Third parties
We use infrastructure and service providers to host and deliver the site. They process data on our instructions and under appropriate safeguards.
Some page assets are loaded from third-party services — for example, web fonts from Google Fonts. When your browser requests those assets, the provider may receive technical data such as your IP address. You can limit this by using browser privacy settings or extensions that block third-party requests.
We do not embed third-party advertising trackers on article pages.
International transfers
Our hosting and tooling may involve processors located outside your country. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards for cross-border transfers, such as standard contractual clauses or equivalent mechanisms recognised under applicable law.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- Access personal data we hold about you
- Request correction or deletion
- Object to or restrict certain processing
- Data portability, where applicable
- Withdraw consent where processing is consent-based
- Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority
To exercise these rights, contact us with enough detail for us to verify your request. We respond within the timeframes required by applicable law.
Children
Hostingpaper is aimed at professional readers in the hosting and infrastructure trade. The site is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy when our practices or legal requirements change. The current version is always published at /privacy. Material changes will be reflected on this page with an updated effective date below.
